Celebrating the very best in contemporary art, Berlin Art Week (11—15 September 2019) is a major highlight on the city's cultural calendar. Whether you're a local or passing through the city, don't miss out on the many exhibitions, talks, openings, art tours, special events and more. As the editor-in-chief of Monopol for three years now (and with the magazine for over 11), our friend Elke Buhr has got a finger on the pulse of all things culture in Germany. Who better to ask for recommendations for this year’s Berlin Art Week?
What does everyone need to know about Berlin Art Week to enjoy it to the fullest?
Berlin Art Week is full of events, and Berlin is bigger than you think, so plan your day ahead. You can find the full schedule in Monopol’s Berlin Art Week 2019 Special Issue. Also check our daily recommendations on here.
Who are some of the artists people cannot miss this year?
I am especially curious to see Tobias Dostal’s show at Haus am Lützowplatz—he is also a gifted magician! And the American artist Christina Ramberg at KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
What’s one insider tip you can share?
One of the most fascinating experiences should be the immersive installation The New Infinity Berlin by Metahaven in the Mobile Dome on Mariannenplatz.
How do you recommend taking in the week?
Planning is great, but never let yourself be overwhelmed by the fear of missing out. Enjoy what you see, don’t worry about what you miss, and allow yourself to be spontaneous. Berlin has great art events all year, and nobody ever sees them all.
